Ms. Finnigan is a nationally recognized addiction specialist, interventionist and author. She received her Certification in Chemical Dependency from UCLA and did her internship at Cedars-Sinai Hospital where she worked in Addiction Services. She was certified in Sex Addiction and Codependency by Dr. Patrick Carnes.
Candy is a Board Registered Interventionist, and she received her intervention training from the man who developed the process, Dr. Vern Johnson. “Intervention is a relatively new concept,” she explains, “it’s only been in use about 50 years. I feel extremely fortunate to have been personally trained by Dr. Vern Johnson.” Some of Candy’s affiliations as an interventionist include; the Betty Ford Center, Sierra Tucson, The Meadows, Promises West and Malibu, Hazelden, Talbots, Caron, Astoria Point/Rosebriar, The Ranch Recovery in Desert Hot Springs and many others.
Candy has been involved in all areas of recovery for over 23 years not only as an interventionist, but also in relapse prevention, family and individual counseling. Additionally, she has extensive experience in assessment, placement, and aftercare treatment. She has been a group facilitator with adults and adolescents, she worked with the students at Beverly Hills High School as a drug and alcohol specialist/counselor for 11 years.
She herself has been in recovery for 30 years. “I was inspired to go into this work because I saw that as a recovering woman, I might be able to connect with people in need” she says. “It’s not just my work, it’s my life.”
Ms Finnigan has been married for over 45 years. She and her husband Mike have two grown children; son, Kelly, and daughter, Bridget.
In 2008 Candy wrote a comprehensive guide to intervention called “When Enough Is Enough”. The book is available through Penguin/Avery Publishing or Amazon.com.
